Founded in 1958, the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras (BYSO) is a youth orchestra based in Boston, Massachusetts. In 2007, the organization changed its name from The Greater Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra (GBYSO) to the Boston Youth Symphony Orchestras. BYSO has the largest operating budget (in 2010, $2,372,974) of any youth orchestra in the United States, nearly double that of most youth orchestras. Ensembles within the organization include: Petit Ensemble (PE), Preparatory Winds (PW), Young People's String Orchestra (YPSO), Junior Repertory Orchestra (JRO), Repertory Orchestra (REP), and Boston Youth Symphony (BYS).
