André Mumot

André Mumot holds a doctorate in cultural studies, is an author, literary translator and journalist. In 2016, Jens Bisky described his literary debut, "Mother's Day," in the Süddeutsche Zeitung as a "panorama of bitterness" and saw in it "a world in collapse ... that is being rebuilt as a universe of solved puzzles." His second novel, "Geisternächte," was published by Eichborn Verlag at the end of August 2018. On it, Bücher-Magazin wrote: "Lustfully, Mumot strokes through the Berlin of modernity with his main characters and at the same time lets them look into archaic hellmouths." Karla Paul said of the book in WDR: "In a country where violence and social neglect, where right-wing extremism, hatred and intolerance are part of everyday life, Mumot writes against this and thus gives voice to those who otherwise have no voice." Since 2008, André Mumot has translated novels, young adult and non-fiction books by authors such as Neil Gaiman, Jo Nesbø, Nick Harkaway and Aleksandar Hemon. He has also worked as a translator on the German version of Cornelia Funke's book "Palast aus Glas". He was awarded the 2014 German Youth Literature Prize for his translation of Raquel J. Palacio's novel "Wunder," published by Hanser. In 2016, he was again among the nominees, in this case for the German version of Ross Montgomery's "Alex, Martha und die Reise ins Verbotene Land." André Mumot also works as a critic, editor and presenter at Deutschlandfunk Kultur, where he regularly hosts the theater magazine "Rang 1". He lives in Berlin.
