D.P. Carter

Tenor and bass vocalist and mandolin player for the Chuck Wagon Gang between 1936 and 1955. David P. "Dad" Carter was an itinerant cotton farmer when he formed the gospel-singing Carter Quartet in 1935 with his son Ernest (a.k.a. "Jim") and his daughters Lola ("Rose") and Effie ("Anna"). After successfully performing for a small radio station in Lubbock, TX, "Dad" moved his family to Forth Worth, TX, where they signed on with the larger station WBAP and became the "Chuck Wagon Gang."
