American trombonist and band leader. Born September 2, 1901 Soldiers Grove, Wisconsin Died January 12, 1962 Alameda, California (60). Led his own orchestra The Gary Nottingham Orchestra (also Gary Nottingham's Orchestra) that frequently played in San Francisco (especially the Bal Tabarin) and on the radio. Marty Paich did some of his arrangements. Some of the vocalists who sang with his orchestra include Carolyn Grey and Dorothy Allen, right before she joined Shep Fields. Some of the members in his band included Emilio "Mal" Malione played clarinet and tenor saxophone and Bill Clifford, violin and trombone. Later in his life he ran the Highland Sweet Shop candy store, soda fountain, and tea room in Oakland, California.
