Dixie Blackstone

Dixie Blackstone began to play Violin professionally with the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra beginning in 1943, along with childhood friend Irma Neumann. She married French horn player, Joseph Eger (later divorced). They moved to NY where she played in The American Symphony Orchestra under Leopold Stokowski. She also served as assistant concertmaster and often filled in as concertmaster with the New York City Opera Orchestra and New York City Ballet Orchestra. She returned to Los Angeles, where she played among composers Bernard Herrmann, Franz Waxman, Miklós Rózsa, Alfred Newman, David Newman, Randy Newman, Alan Silvestri, and James Horner, to name just a few. Her playing was prominent in many radio and television programs, and pop recordings as well. She passed away July 2017 at the age of 98.
