American songwriter, author, pianist, vocalist, and conductor, also known as Billy Heagney. He wrote many kinds of songs, including novelty, comedy, ballads, jazz, and a dozen of Hawaiian numbers. Heagney started as a vaudeville performer, and performed with his own orchestra, Heagney-Wallace Orchestra. In the 1920s, after vaudeville had started to decline, Heagney accepted a songwriting position in New York. He was also a radio performer, and was one of the members of a singing quartet called "The Tip Top Tenors." He worked in several trios with his former vaudeville partner, Jack McDermott, and Fred Steele (2), including "The Three Cheers" on the New York radio station WEAF. He worked for various publishing companies, and co-founded the Fred K. Steele publishing company in 1926. He was a long-time member of ASCAP, and also worked as a head arranger for Irving Caesar Music Corp. He wrote music at least for two musicals, "There You Are" (1932) and "Dilly Dally" (1932).
