Lars Pettersson

Swedish jazz musician (double bassist), called "Petan", born December 16, 1931 in Stockholm, died March 27, 2000 in Gustavsberg on Värmdö. In his late teens, Pettersson began a 5-year music education at the Royal Academy of Music. In 1950 he started playing with Thore Swanerud. In 1954 he was discovered by Carl-Henrik Norin, who played with, among others, Gunnar "Siljabloo" Nilson. With them he played at the dance palace Nalen in Stockholm until 1962, when Bengt Hallberg took Lars in his trio. He was also a freelancer in the meantime. In 1970, he got a permanent job at the Oscar Theater. Lars "Petan" Pettersson's bass can be heard on many records recorded during the 1950s, 60s and 70s. He worked with many of the greats of the time such as Povel Ramel, Monica Zetterlund, Alice Babs, Lill-Babs, Towa Carson, Anita Lindblom, Kjerstin Dellert and Anita O'Day. In 1989, Pettersson retired due to a back injury. Member in Carl-Henrik Norins Orkester between 1954-1962 and in Bengt Hallbergs Trio during the 1960s and 1970s.
