Jacob Smith is a musician, writer and educator based in Chicago, IL, formerly from Indiana, husband of Freda Love, was a member of the rock band Antenna in the early-nineties, then formed The Mysteries of Life with his wife Freda, he also became a a sessions musician, having recorded the bass parts for The Fray album "How To Save A Life", he has also occasionally played with the rock band The Vulgar Boatmen and with Jason Narducy's band Split Single. He is currently a teacher at Northwestern in Evanston, IL, since 2010, having previously taught at the University of Nottingham in England, from 2006 to 2010. As an author he has written the following books "Vocal Tracks: Performance and Sound Media" (University of California Press 2008); "Spoken Word: Postwar American Phonograph Cultures" (University of California Press 2011); "The Thrill Makers: Celebrity, Masculinity, and Stunt Performance" (University of California Press 2012); and "Eco-Sonic Media" (University of California Press, 2015).
