American jazz pianist, arranger and bandleader. Born 1 November 1914 in Middleburg, North Carolina. Died 9 July 1994 in Marstons Mills, Massachusetts. Sabby led bands in the Boston area from 1936 through the 1960s and intermittently to the early 1990s. He played with Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, Billy Eckstine and others. He recorded for several labels including Crystaltone, Cleveland Continetal Records, London Records, Mercury and ABC-Paramount. During the last decades of his life, he played mostly solo and trio piano.
