Patrick Leigh Fermor

Sir Patrick Michael Leigh Fermor DSO OBE (also known as Paddy Leigh Fermor) was an English writer, scholar, soldier and polyglot. Born 11 February 1915 in London, England, UK - Died 10 June 2011 in Dumbleton, Gloucestershire, England, UK He was prominent behind the lines in the Cretan resistance in the Second World War, and was widely seen as Britain's greatest living travel writer. Patrick and Joan Leigh Fermor admired and loved Greece and decided to build their house in Kardamyli, Mani and live there for the rest of their lives. In 1996, they donated the Leigh Fermor House to the Benaki Museum, Athens.
