The Creepy Creeps

Surf-punk band from San Diego, California, formed in 1999. The band members wear matching masks and costumes and go by pseudonyms. They perform with a pair of go-go dancers and one or two "crowd rousers", all of whom are also costumed and go by pseudonyms. Under the alias Creepxotica, they perform instrumental interpretations of their music in a 1960s exotica style. The Creepy Creeps consist of singer/keyboardist Dylan Scharf (aka "Dr. Creepenstein"), singer/guitarist Dave Warshaw ("The Creepture"), bassist/backing singer Aaron Zepeda ("Dia de los Creep"), and drummer Kevin Ross ("Creepula"). Scharf and Warshaw had previously played together in The Locust and Tarantula Hawk. Inspired by costumed bands of the 1960s, the Creepy Creeps don a variety of matching masks and costumes. They are sometimes joined by saxophonist/percussionist Scott Jones ("Creepanzee"). Their live show includes a pair of go-go dancers (the "Solid Ghoul Dancers", whose pseudonyms have included "Zombina", "She Creep", and "Creep-O-Hauntus"), as well as one or two "crowd rousers" ("Sir Gravis/Sir Grave-E" and "Mikey Ratt/The Fat Fink"). Their self-titled first album was released in 2006 on Inka Records, followed by Last To Leave (2007) on Green Door Records and Fink About It! (2009) on Dionysus Records. They then launched the alter-ego band Creepxotica, reinterpreting their songs in the style of instrumental 1960s exotica music. Creepxotica released 2 full length albums and 2 EPs on Dionysus between 2011 and 2017, followed by The Creepy Creeps' fourth album, 10 Bangin' Hits! (2017), initially self-released and then re-released on Pig Baby Records.
