American songwriter, producer, radio host and rare book dealer. In the 50s, he became a personality on Boston radio, hosting the program “Penney Serenade.” During this period, Variety named him one of the 10 most influential disc jockeys in America. Penney moved to Nashville in 1971 to work full-time as songwriter. During the next decade, his songs was recorded by Barbara Mandrell, Dottie West, Moe Bandy, Jerry Wallace, Jim Ed Brown, Brian Collins, Anne Murray, Barbi Benton and others. Following the string of successes with Terri Gibbs in the 80s, Penney retired from music and he opened the "Dad’s Old Bookstore" in Green Hills.
