Rod McGrath

British classical cellist. Aged 15, he joined the National Youth Orchestra Of Great Britain becoming Principal Cello of the orchestra in his final year. He then studied at the Royal Academy of Music and was made Principal Cello of the Royal Academy Of Music Symphony Orchestra in his first term, the first time this had happened in the Academy's history. He joined the London Philharmonic Orchestra as number two cello at the age of 21. Four years later, he joined the London Symphony Orchestra as Co-Principal Cello (1978-1998). he was a founding member of The Rossetti Ensemble. He joined the West Australian Symphony Orchestra in 1997 and also joined the Australian Piano Quartet at the same time. He and his family became Australian Citizens in 2000.
