He deserted the French army in 1962 and after three years of travelling, in 1965 he settled in Copenhagen, Denmark. Soon after he formed Cy, Maia & Robert. Following the 1967 break up of Cy, Maia & Robert, Lelièvre toured and recorded with Alex Campbell (2) and the following year with Iain Campbell (2) as the duo Robert And Iain. In 1969 and 1970 he enjoyed his most prominent musical period as leader of the Danish progressive rock band PAN (2) which released a single album that in various rankings stays in the absolute top of all time Danish rock albums. In 1971 he recorded a solo album which remains unreleased as it was classified as uncommercial by his label. In 1972 France issued an amnesty for deserters and Lelièvre returned to France where he was nevertheless sentenced and forced to serve time in prison. After his release he returned to Denmark, but traumatised and dissatisfied with the music industry, he took his own life in 1973.
