George Elbridge Whiting

George E. Whiting (14 September 1840, Holliston, Massachusetts — 14 October 1923, Jamaica Plain, Boston) was an American composer, organist, and music pedagogue. He got educated abroad, studying with William Thomas Best in Liverpool and later with Robert Radecke and Carl August Haupt (1810—1891) in Berlin. After returning to the USA, Whiting succeeded John Henry Willcox (1827—1875) as a titular organist and kapellmeister at the Church of the Immaculate Conception in south Boston. George Elbridge served as an organist at the Boston Music Hall (1874 and 1878) and later at Music Hall in Cincinnati, Ohio. He worked as the head of the organ department at the New England Conservatory Of Music, teaching Henry Morton Dunham, among other notable pupils.
