Allan Winkler

Allan Winkler (b. 9 December 1948) is an American harpsichord builder, owner and proprietor of Allan Winkler Harpsichords in Medford, Massachusetts, since 1977. He specializes in expressive double- and single-manual harpsichords and clavichords. Winkler began apprenticing with renowned Eric Herz (1919—2002) in June 1971 — in the heyday of the Early Music revival and during the formational years of the "Boston School of Harpsichord Making" (represented by Herz and the prominent duo of Frank Hubbard (1920—1976) and William Dowd (1922—2008), two groundbreaking Bostonian makers). After his formal training, Allan Winkler visited various historical instrument collections across the USA and Europe; for over thirty years, he partnered with the Museum Of Fine Arts Boston as a maintenance technician and consultant.
