György Maróthy

Maróthi, György (Debrecen, 18 June 1715 - Debrecen, 16 October 1744) – Theologian of the Reformed Church, mathematician, educator, pioneer of Hungarian choir singing. In 1743 he published his Arithmetica or the Art of Calculation (Arithmetica vagy számvetésnek mestersége) that became the textbook of the century. In 1740 he reorganized the College Choir on the model of Swiss universities, and called it the Collegium musicum; he also established the still-existing choir, the Kántus of the College.
