Derek Williams

Derek Williams is a Scottish resident composer, orchestrator, conductor and producer, with 27 IMDB credits and 33 Discog credits. Since 2007, he has served on the Associated Staff of Edinburgh University as a tutor, lecturer and examiner in Composition, Screen Composition and Orchestration, having previously worked in these fields in Australia 1985-2006. Since 2017, he has been Chair of the Wagner Society of Scotland. Derek Williams has conducted numerous orchestras both in Australia including the Victorian Philharmonic Orchestra, the Newcastle Philharmonic Orchestra, the Peter Seymour Orchestra, the Waverley-Randwick Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir, the Sydney Gay & Lesbian Big Band, and the United Kingdom including the Edinburgh University Savoy Opera Group, Lothian Festival Orchestra, Scottish Opera Orchestra, Linlithgow String Orchestra and the Abbotsford String Orchestra. Film and Television series he has scored music for have had wins at the Los Angeles Film Festival, Indiefilms, BAFTA, Best Film Score (NZ), an Oscar, Platinum record sales and an Australian Aria Award nomination. Stars in films scored by Derek Williams have included Russell Crowe, Hugo Weaving, Phil Collins, Josephine Byrnes, Lee Majors, Guy Pearce and Terence Stamp. He has been arranger for Caroline O'Connor, and has worked with Torvill & Dean as arranger, as keyboardist for Andrew Lloyd Webber's CATS (Really Useful Theatre Company) and Phantom of the Opera (Cameron Mackintosh Limited), and as musical director and orchestrator for numerous independent productions.
