Steve Altman

Steve Altman is a comedian and musician known for his mixture of the two genres. Steve first came into fame when he wrote the parody song "Purple Reindeer", a parody of the Prince song "Purple Rain" which became popular when it appeared on "The Dr. Demento Show" in December 1985. Eventually being released as a 45 record single, years later. Early in his career, he preformed as the title character in the musical "Tom Foolery", a Mickey Finn Production, in 1987. In which he parodied the artists Elvis, and Prince, as well as preformed his song "Purple Reindeer" song. In 1989 he was the main character in the film "Transylvania Twist", a movie that follows a young man trying to acquire a book, and meeting a rock star, who's family member has the book. Although the main character in the film, he did not get top billing. For the movie, he also lip syncs to a song, preformed by another artist. In the 1990's Steve performed as musical Disc Jockey in the television performances of magician Rudy Coby. He also made solo television, and comedy club appearances. His stand up comedy, musical acts were the basis of his album "Pre.Millennium Tour", in 1997. Steve has opened for: Dennis Miller, Tim Allen, Garry Shandling, Bill Maher, Bette Midler, The Pointer Sisters, The Righteous Brothers, and Chicago. He also began writing and directing his own short videos, and comedy films. Many of which also included unreleased tracks only found in those projects. In 2013 he was writer/composer of a Rock and Roll musical, about the H.G. Wells story "The Time Machine Musical", a two hour theater play {not to be confused with the 2017 play of the same name}. In 2016 he released the album "No Hollywood Dream", a more straight forward musical album, with some humor interwoven into the lyric of the songs, and the instrumentation. Also in that year he began his voice over role for the character of Murphy, in the DogGone film trilogy, with director Jim Wynorski of Transylvania Twist, directing these new movies from 2016-2018. Besides music, writing and directing he is also a painter.
