Jacmelina (Occitan form of her first name Jacqueline), died in 1993, is a French singer of Occitan expression of the twentieth century, and one of the representatives of the movement of the Nòva cançon ("New song" in Occitan). English teacher in Toulouse, she interprets on her own music texts by Occitan authors such as Bernard Manciet, Maurice Andrieu, Jean-Pierre Baldit, Marceau Esquieu... by accompanying herself on the guitar. It is part of the "new Occitan song" which advocates language and roots at the same time as political demands (Cançon per Puig Antich is dedicated to the anarchist Salvador Puig i Antich, the last executed by withers of the Franco regime). Although often classified in the "folk" movement, her music and texts do not use a traditional repertoire. From 1974, his records are produced by Revolum, a house created in Toulouse by the singer Rosina de Pèira. From 1985 to 1987, she participated, along with singers Éric Fraj and Bernat, in the series of shows Istòrias d'Aquitania (Histoires d'Aquitaine) written by Marceau Esquieu for FR3 Bordeaux. Outside of television broadcasting, the songs she performs there have remained unpublished. Victim with her husband, a Toulouse academic, of a serious road accident where he loses his life, she must undergo several transfusions of blood that happens to be contaminated. She barely had time to resume her activity as a singer, broadening her horizon by singing in English or French, without abandoning Occitan, when she was swept away by illness.
