Meyrick Alexander

British classical bassoon player and professor, born 18 May 1952. He studied at the Royal College of Music, London. He was a member of the National Youth Orchestra Of Great Britain, before joining the Royal Ballet Sinfonia in 1971, as 3rd Bassoon. Two years later, he moved to BBC Northern Symphony Orchestra, as 2nd Bassoon, where he formed the Aquilo Wind Quintet. He then spent a year in his first principal position with the Northern Sinfonia, before joining the Philharmonia Orchestra in 1980 as Principal Bassoon, holding this position util the summer of 2010. Member of the Classical Wind Quintet and Principal Bassoon of The London Chamber Orchestra. He was Professor of Bassoon at The Guildhall School Of Music & Drama (1984-?), and Head of Woodwind at the Royal Welsh College Of Music And Drama (2010-?). Professor of Bassoon at the Royal Academy of Music.
