American tenor vocalist (born August 20, 1917 in Los Angeles, CA – died December 19, 2007 in Scarborough, ME) After serving as a musician and bandleader in the U.S. Navy during World War II, Burris started a long career singing and acting on stage, radio, and television, beginning with a revival of "Showboat" on Broadway in 1945. He had several solo appearances at Radio City Music Hall in New York City and twice toured nationally with "The Student Prince", starring as Franz Karl. From 1959 on, he regularly performed during the summer in Maine, where he finally settled permanently and became a voice teacher. He continued singing at local events until 1993.
