German bandleader, guitarist, bandoneon player and viola player, born 1907 in Hamburg (died 1985). He was 13 for the first time on stage, at 17 he played in a 7-man band. In Berlin he played guitar in Oskar Joost's dance orchestra, with whom he made recordings in 1930 ('Herr Ober zwei Mokka'). In the following years he was a.o. involved in recordings by James Kok, Erhard Bauschke and Adalbert Lutter. He also directs the formation Fred Dömpke and his zither orchestra. In 1944, Dömpke was on the God-given list of the Reich Ministry for Public Enlightenment and Propaganda. After the war he appeared in the formation Dömpke Original Tango Orchestra, among others.
