Kurt Sutter

American screenwriter, TV director, producer, and actor (b. 5 May 1960, Rahway, New Jersey); lives and works in Los Feliz, California. Kurt Sutter is best known for FX network's television drama series The Shield (2004–2008) and Sons of Anarchy (2008–14). He's been married to actress and singer Katey Sagal since 2004. Kurt Sutter attended Livingston College's journalism department at Rutgers University, graduating in 1986 with his BA degree in Mass Media. He attended Northern Illinois University between 1997 and 2000, earning MFA in Performance and Directing. Two years later, Sutter was hired as a staff writer for The Shield's first season, promoted to supervising producer by the 4th season and executive producer by the 6th season in 2007; overall, he created over 60 episodes. Sutter's Sons of Anarchy earned various accolades over the years, including three Primetime Emmy Awards nominations: for "Outstanding Original Main Title Theme Music" in 2009, shared with Dave Kushner and Curtis Stigers, and "Outstanding Original Music and Lyrics" in 2014–15, shared with Bob Thiele Jr., The White Buffalo and Noah Gundersen. In 2013, Kurt Sutter won the "Top Television Series" prize from ASCAP Film and Television Music Awards.
