Lula Barbosa began his artistic career in the early 70s, when he formed the group Semente. He won several student festivals and opened shows by Isaurinha Garcia, Adoniran Barbosa and Paulinho da Viola at Sesc Interlagos, in São Paulo, Brazil. In the 80's, in a solo career, the musician started singing professionally in the night bars of São Paulo, at the fertile time of MPB and nightlife in the neighborhood of Bixiga in São Paulo.
