The Minneapolis crossover hardcore/metal band know as Anamnesis was formed in the summer of 1999 by guitarist Mike Maggiolo, bassist Chad Grill, and vocalist Matt Davis, all formerly of the Minneapolis hardcore band Wedge. Aaron Thompson, a long-time friend of Chad's, joined the band on drums and Mike recruited guitarist Lon Chubiz to round out the five-piece. A number of influences are involved in the sound of Anamnesis, ranging from hardcore and heavy metal to jazz and classic rock. The fusion of these influences is the machine that drives Anamnesis's music to a new level, with hard-hitting rhythms, melodic overtones, and intensely emotional lyrics. January 2000 marked the release date of the self-financed EP entitled "Pushing Away the Sun". With a number of successful shows around Minnesota, and rave reviews from the fans, Anamnesis was enthusiastic about release more of their material. The opportunity arose to shortly after the release of "Pushing Away the Sun" in the form of a split-CD with another Minneapolis band called Encroach. The split CD was released in March 2000. Soon after it's release, Anamnesis hit the road for a Midwest tour, supporting both albums and promoting their new sound, which has been aptly titled as "Metal-core". After the tour Anamnesis concentrated on writing new material, and supporting the Minneapolis music scene, yet eager to tour again. August 2001 marked the release of "The Death of Civility", Anamnesis' third release DIY release, recorded with Tim Mac.
