Trio Marie Soldat is a Dutch classical ensemble, founded in 2017 and based in Amsterdam. The group plays on period instruments, specializing in historical performance practices. The trio regularly consults with musicologists, including Clive Brown (2) and Neal Peres Da Costa, further deepening their knowledge and practice of XIX-century playing techniques and expressive features: portamento, sparing use of vibrato, tempo flexibility, tempo rubato, and piano arpeggiation. The group is named after a renowned violinist Marie Soldat (1863—1955), a virtuoso player of the French violin school, student of Joseph Joachim, and the founder of possibly the first all-women chamber ensemble, Soldat-Roeger Quartet, in 1887.
