J. Scott Smith is an American Musician. Active from 1972-2015. Instruments include bass, drums, guitar, keyboards. From 1972-1974 played with the band Noah. Toured the US and Europe and the Middle East. Gigs included the Munich Olympics, and concerts throughout Israel including the Dead Sea, Sianai Desert, Gaza strip and Jerusalem and Tel-Aviv. From 1978-1982 played with The Garcia Brothers Band. Writing songs for and playing on Tropic of Rock (Bullseye Records) Toured extensively up and down the West Coast. Became partner/owner in 1987 in The Recording Studio Inc., a professional studio in Sunnyvale, Ca. There he learned the crafts of engineering and producing records on 24 track tape machines. It is said he recorded and played on or produced over 1,000 records for Bay Area bands and songwriters. TRS was sold in 2004. In 1987 he became the drummer for local band, Giraffe. Giraffe featured Kevin Gilbert, who would go on to a successful solo career, working with Madonna, Michael Jackson, Sheryl Crow and many more artists. Giraffe took first place at the Yamaha Sound Check Competition, beating out 6,000 bands and eventually representing the USA in the finals in Tokyo, Japan where they won the Gold Prize. Smith won best drummer and received an award and $5,000. In 1992 he joined Cactus Choir who were eventually signed to Atlantic Records. Their first album was recorded in Nashville, Tennessee. Produced by legendary producer Bill Halverson (Crosby, Stills, and Nash) it was Atlantic records first release on their new country label. Smith continued to record and produce throughout the 90's and 2000's. In 2007 he opened White Rabbit Recording Studio in Campbell, Ca.with fellow musician and engineer Kyle Bowers. Bowers and Smith joined The Shanks and the band won the coveted KFOX 98.5 "Last Band Standing" competition hosted by Greg Kihn, beating out all competitors in the SF Bay Area. Smith retired from active performing in 2015, now lives with his wife, Sheila in the Gold Country. He still records and mixes albums in his spare time. He has 4 solo records.
