American freelance photographer (b. June 1986, Long Island, New York). Chris Maggio lives and works in Queens, represented by East Photographic agency. Originally from Long Island's North Shore, Maggio studied at Boston University from 2004 to 2008, earning his Bachelor's degree in "Film/Cinema/Video Studies". He worked as a film editor for many years before starting a career in photography. Selected Maggio's clients include The New York Times, Apple Inc., Balenciaga, adidas, Heron Preston, Time Magazine, GQ Magazine, The Fader, Netflix, HBO, Atlantic, Pitchfork Media, Wired Magazine, and VICE. Chris Maggio was a photographer for a controversial Balenciaga/adidas Spring 23 campaign. It portrayed the brand's handbag on a loose pile of seemingly random documents, which turned out to be a printout of "United States v. Williams, 553 U.S. 285" Supreme Court case criminalizing "pandering" of child pornography. Following massive backlash and criticism, Balenciaga and Adidas pressed legal charges against North Six Inc. production company and the set designer Nicholas Des Jardins, blaming them as sole culprits. Balenciaga's spokesperson confirmed that the company won't be taking legal action against Maggio, stating that he "did not create the set nor have anything to do with the unapproved items within it".
